Paper? Or plastic?
In 2003, the card surpassed the cash.
For the first time, more Americans paid for their retail purchases with a card than with cash or check. Paying bills is another matter, frequent shopper miles notwithstanding.
  • 2000 - As late as 2000, Americans were still paying for 60% of their shopping with paper.
  • 2002 - 72% of bills in the United States were still paid by check.
  • 2006 - For the first time, electronic bill payment exceeds payment by check.
Gleebit: 2008 is the last year you will be able to pay for anything with cash in Singapore.
The government there has mandated no-cash transactions.
