One of the World’s best known technology personalities
Richard Hart is the only person to win both an Emmy award for comedy and a DuPont-Columbia Journalism Award for investigative reporting. He holds a degree in physics and is on NASA's official list to become the first American journalist to report from space.
Hart is an instrument-rated pilot, 2nd degree black belt in taekwondo, advanced scuba diver and fencer.
The Next Step
"The Next Step" is the name of the long-running series Hart created for the Discovery Channel, where it became the highest rated science and technology show in prime time during its 5 years on the air.
For his work on that program, Hart was awarded a CableACE as best show host on cable TV.
Today, Richard Hart reports on emerging technologies for television stations, such as ABC7 in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he is seen Wednesday and Sunday evenings. The reports, syndicated under the brand name "The Next Step", also appear on broadband technology sites such as Space.com, LiveScience.com and Joost.
While reporting for CBS News and NBC News, Richard became known for his clear, simple explanation of how things work.
As a founding member of CNET TV, he and producer Dan Sexton hosted and created 5 television series for the new media company. Those series aired on CNBC, USA Network, Sci Fi, and on more than 40 broadcast stations in syndication. Hart left CNET to form new media production company New Material.
Next Step Live
For corporate events, Richard Hart invites audience members onto the stage to experience emerging technologies that cannot be seen elsewhere. He also conducts workshops for major organizations on his favorite theme: the intersection of right-brain and left-brain workforces. He has worked with
As one of the first employees of CNET, he oversaw the convergence — and frequent culture clash — of professionals from the broadcasting and technology worlds.
Hart demonstrates how, "The best ideas arise from interdisciplinary teams. Thrown together, they create new approaches to the future." He offers rich examples from his experience at CNET and from the incubators he visits every week in his role of reporting the Next Step in everything.
